And it is over. The season of Real Madrid could not have an end more in line with what has been seen in recent months by Chamartín. The white club fell defeated against Betis, without goal and almost without desire. The team was called by the crowd Santiago Bernabeu, who found his only relief in the final whistle ending with the merengue agony. The fans did not take it with everyone and it was that he dedicated a special farewell to his goalkeeper Keylor Navas.
With nothing at stake between Madrid and Betis, the 'transcendental' of the game resided in those players who could put an end to their stage in the white club on Sunday. There were no clues, at least at the microphones. Zidane continued with his strategy and he did not give much pledge in the previous one of the party, like in the later press conference. Of course, in the environment you could see that this clash was the end of some of them, as Keylor Navas Y Gareth Bale.
The focus was on both of them, one on the field and one on the bench. Two totally different ways of saying goodbye. With Keylor a warm welcome was expected. The tico has always kept a good relationship with the white coliseum. The goalkeeper of the three Champions in a row deserved a goodbye and the Bernabéu was fair. He could not forget to say goodbye to Keylor and they let him know from the first minute of the game with a thunderous ovation.
Keylor, a warm goodbye
Every time Keylor played the ball the applause of the stadium was heard. Even more so when the tico flew one last time under the clubs of what was his goal in recent years. He left a spectacular stop (another one in his repertoire), rejecting a shot from Bartra. Many things would go through the head to the tico in what is probably his last game at Madrid, but he was not carried away. In the game, there was time for tributes later. Keylor returned the applause at the end. He saluted, put his hand to his chest and then took a picture with his family.
Keylor Navas assumes his farewell, although there is nothing official. Zidane would have already told him that the starting goalkeeper next season will be Courtois. That in private, because in public he did not say anything else. Fede Valverde If he was more explicit in the mixed zone with his words towards the tico: “Thank Keylor for his personal, professional and soccer character, for something he met us and told us that, he was like a father, he has helped me a lot”, said the Uruguayan. A good listener, few words are enough.
Bale did not even warm
The other side of the coin was Gareth Bale. Zidane demonstrated with the Welshman that he is not for sentimentality. The season has ended as it has finished and those who played are the ones who had to play, not a matter of farewells. The French coach continued his tug-of-war with Bale. A pulse that has caused that the '11' white has not played any minute in the last three games (two outside the call and the latter on the bench).
Bale passed by in what is surely his last day at the Santiago Bernabéu in white. His agent and he stand firm and in public they have made it clear that they do not think of a way out. Not so the club and Zidane do. The Gaul left in a press conference a final message to the Welshman: “I have not done it (a farewell to Bale) I'm sorry because he has not had minutes (…) When there is something that I do not like or does not fit, well I decide. ” Clear and in the bottle.
Keylor, Bale and who else?
Keylor and Bale stole glances this Sunday, each in their own way. The question is to know who were the others who said goodbye to Madrid on this day, without making any noise. They will be more than the tico and the Welsh, being the next weeks key to know what will be the other sacrifices of Zidane. The candidates: Llorente, Nacho, Lucas Vázquez and Isco … of those who were.
