Martin Odegaard will stop being a Real Madrid player in the next few hours. The Norwegian midfielder is finalizing the details of his loan to Arsenal and that is why he did not train with the team this Friday. Zinedine Zidane directed the session in Valdebebas in which neither Odegaard nor Sergio Ramos was present, who is recovering from some discomfort. Dani Carvajal did return.
Odegaard will thus see his wish to leave Real Madrid fulfilled in the absence of minutes with Zidane. The Norwegian stopped counting for the French coach in recent weeks and asked the club to go out in the winter market to have more opportunities elsewhere. Finally, Arsenal has taken the lead with a loan agreement until the end of the season and without a purchase option.
In this way, Zidane loses another piece in the winter transfer period. First it was Luka Jovic, who left on loan to Eintracht Frankfurt and is now followed by Odegaard who will play in the Premier League in the coming months under Mikel Arteta. There had been talk of a possible return to Real Sociedad, where he played on loan last season, but the Gunners have gone ahead.
Odegaard also did not train in this Thursday’s post-match session against Alcoyano. The Norwegian suffers some discomfort, another reason for not having seen him on the Valdebebas pitch in the last training sessions of the white team. His departure is about and in England he will try to find the minutes he has not had with Zidane despite his promise last summer.
And it is that Odegaard was Real Madrid’s bet to give fresh air to the squad in a summer in which it was not possible to sign due to the economic crisis. Odegaard and Real Madrid had an agreement with Real Sociedad to extend the loan for another season (the current one), but the white club decided to return to reinforce the squad. Zidane promised him a leading role that he did not end up having, which caused his anger.
Real Madrid lose a piece in the center of the field and are left with five troops (Modric, Kroos, Casemiro, Fede Valverde and Isco) for the remaining four months of the season. For his part, Odegaard will arrive at Arsenal to take the place of former Madrid player Mesut Özil, who has been pushed aside by Arteta all season and who has recently signed for Fenerbahce.
